Asan Medical Center's augmented reality (AR) head and neck surgery guide app has won an award in the service design concept category at the iF Design Award 2023, one of the world's top three design awards.
This AR head and neck surgery guide app was researched and developed through a collaboration between Professor Jong-Woo Choi of the Department of Plastic Surgery and SKIA as part of a Research-driven Hospital Promotion R&D Project. The app's UX/UI guidelines were created and supported by the Innovation Design Center of Asan Medical Center.
By utilizing the technology integrated into the app, medical image data can be projected onto the patient's face, enabling the visualization of fractures, lesion sites, and anatomical structures such as blood vessels. Additionally, the precise location of lesions and blood vessels can be directly displayed on the patient's body. These advantages are expected to significantly reduce surgical deviations and minimize the time required, which often relies on the surgeon's level of expertise.
