Dr. Mohammed Ghazi Felemban is an orthopedic surgeon at King Fahad Armed Forces Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Since January, he has been under the supervision of Professor Ji Wan Kim of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Asan Medical Center. Dr. Mohammed Ghazi Felemban shares his experience and insights gained from his training at Asan Medical Center.
Why did you choose Asan Medical Center for training?
Asan Medical Center is considered one of the best hospitals in Korea, and its training programs are known for their high quality and standards. Furthermore, I often came across high-quality research papers published by medical staff at Asan Medical Center. Many of my colleagues who had previously participated in the training at Asan Medical Center highly recommended it, emphasizing the valuable learning experiences they gained. I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to train here. I am currently diligently learning under the guidance of Professor Ji Wan Kim in pursuit of becoming a competent orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip joint procedures.
How do you feel about your training so far?
I am very satisfied with the training program. It is well-structured, providing education in a step-by-step manner. At first, I faced challenges due to my lack of experience in hip joint surgery, but the entire team was patient and supportive, helping me to adapt and learn. In particular, Professor Ji Wan Kim imparts surgical techniques based on solid theory and knowledge, which gives me confidence that I will achieve good results by the end of my training.

What impressed you?
Asan Medical Center actively incorporates digital technology in building its healthcare system. All processes such as hospital entry, registration, and billing, are carried out through kiosks and smartphones. During diagnosis and surgery, state-of-the-art equipment is used, resulting in a wide range of surgical methods and procedures. The systematic coordination of all teams to provide prompt medical services to patients left a strong impression on me. Additionally, the statistical analysis and management of diverse patient cases to improve the quality of medical care were remarkable. I believe these aspects are the driving force behind its high rankings in global hospital evaluations.
How is your life in South Korea?
Although I am not yet fluent in Korean, everyone has been warm and friendly, enabling me to make many friends. Regular gatherings with medical professionals from various countries allow us to share information and experiences, providing mutual support. On days off, I have had memorable trips to places like Nami Island, Busan, and Jeju Island. Korea has four seasons, enabling diverse activities such as skiing and biking, which I find enjoyable. Korean cuisine is very delicious, but its variety sometimes makes it challenging to remember the names of dishes when ordering. (Laughs) I would like to express my gratitude to Professor Ji Wan Kim, my teammates, and Asan Medical Center for their generous support, making this a fruitful training experience.
