Last year, the total number of patients visiting AMC Cancer Institute was reported to be 1,168,731. Among them, 1,085,069 were outpatient visitors, and 83,662 were inpatients. The overall number of cancer patients recorded over the past four years has consistently exceeded one million, following 1,037,050 in 2020, 1,102,350 in 2021, and 1,121,080 in 2022.

 

The number of new cancer registrations last year was 36,229, with a total of 277,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients in South Korea annually. One out of every eight cancer patients receives treatment at Asan Medical Center.

 

There were 23,350 cancer surgeries performed. Asan Medical Center's multidisciplinary cancer clinic, first implemented in June 2006, saw a 23.4% increase to 7,640 cases in 2023 compared to 6,189 in 2022. This integrated treatment involves multiple specialists providing tailored care for each cancer patient, with Asan Medical Center accounting for approximately 24% of all multidisciplinary care South Korea as of 2022.

Additionally, there were 234,606 chemotherapy sessions, 112,221 radiation therapy sessions, 5,311 Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) genetic tests, and 594 cancer clinical trials recorded. Furthermore, 17,567 specialized treatments for cancer and quality of life management for cancer patients were conducted. AMC Cancer Institute operates 11 clinics such as the Bone Metastasis Clinic, Cancer Lifelong Health Clinic, Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic, and Cancer Stress Clinic, striving to improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

 

Asan Medical Center, which treats the most cancer patients in the country, endeavors to enhance medical quality through initiatives such as establishment of the Center for Personalized Cancer Medicine, operation of the Cancer Institute Data Center, and the introduction of CAR T-cell therapy, providing world-class personalized treatment.

 

To confirm the excellence of cancer treatment quantitatively and qualitatively and provide objective information to patients, AMC Cancer Institute published an ‘Outcomes Book.’ This book includes 74 indicators covering treatment outcomes, the number of radiation and systemic chemotherapy sessions, average length of hospital stay, and complication rates for liver cancer, colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer. The ‘Outcomes Book’ aims to provide cancer patients with objective information about cancer treatment outcomes, enhance hospital credibility, and serve as a resource to advance patient-centered cancer treatment systems.
