Asan Medical Center has been recognized for its cutting-edge digital infrastructure, receiving Stage 6 validation in the Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM) at the HIMSS24 APAC conference, held on October 2 at COEX, Seoul.
The U.S.-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the host of HIMSS24 APAC, is a reputable organization that integrates information and communication technology (IT) into healthcare to improve and streamline medical systems. Its mission is to certify the level of digital transformation in healthcare institutions, aiming to enhance the quality of care and patient safety.
The latest version of the INFRAM evaluation model incorporates stringent new criteria, including the use of emerging technologies like generative artificial intelligence (AI). Asan Medical Center distinguished itself as the first in Asia to receive Stage 6 validation under these revised standards.
In particular, Asan Medical Center was commended for its robust data governance framework, including its culture of cybersecurity, incident response planning, network integrity and physical asset management, and maintenance of ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certifications. It also received high scores in the planning, execution, and evaluation processes of its digital transformation initiatives.
Additionally, Asan Medical Center placed within the top 10 globally in the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) rankings.
HIMSS evaluates the level of digital transformation in healthcare institutions through the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) assessment, focusing on areas such as interoperability and infrastructure, support for patient-centered healthcare and related services, and predictive analytics and data management. Notably, Asan Medical Center achieved a perfect score in governance and workforce development.
Professor Sang-Oh Lee, Director of Digital Innovation at Asan Medical Center, stated, “Asan Medical Center has developed and operated its own digital medical information system to enhance patient safety and improve the quality of care. We have implemented digital innovations across various areas, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA), digital pathology systems, and mobile personal health record services.”
He continued, “Moving forward, we will continue to develop digital services that patients and staff can truly experience. We are committed to creating a sustainable IT ecosystem to build a patient-centered digital hospital that integrates cutting-edge technology.”
