Asan Medical Center is committed to fulfilling its role as the ‘last resort hospital’ where critically ill patients come with hope for treatment. Participating in the ‘Structural Transformation of Tertiary Hospitals’ project initiated last year, Asan Medical Center focuses on treating essential, critical, and emergency diseases while striving to nurture specialized medical professionals to improve patient safety and quality of care.

Asan Medical Center provides a variety of training programs for theory and practice, aiming to enhance patient safety and quality of care and develop medical professionals specialized in treating critically ill patients. Last year, 120 training programs were held for professional medical support staff.

Training programs available at the Simulation Center include surgical skill training, practical training to improve clinical judgment for early assessment of deteriorating patients, and case-based online training. Additionally, the Medical Information Management will provide training to support medical records, and the AMC Academy Administration Team will offer theory-based refresher training on clinical reasoning by system. The Nursing Directorate conducts pre-job training to help professional support staff onboarding and improve patient safety.

“The training involved setting up virtual patient cases to get a sense of real-life situations, and it was extremely helpful,” noted Manager Ju A Lee of Surgical Nursing Team I, who recently attended a clinical judgment enhancement training at the Simulation Center.

Since last year, Asan Medical Center has been participating in the ‘Structural Transformation of Tertiary Hospitals’ project of the South Korean Government, aiming to shift the focus of tertiary hospitals to focus on critical care and medical specialists. Going forward, Asan Medical Center plans a phased increase of critical care by up to 70% and reinforce its workforce for essential, critical, and emergency care.
