Asan Medical Center of the ASAN Foundation (Chairman Chung Mong-Joon) has ranked the highest among hospitals in South Korea and 25th in the world in the global hospital evaluation conducted by Newsweek, a U.S. weekly news magazine.
Since the evaluation began in 2019, Asan Medical Center has consistently maintained its position as the top hospital in South Korea.
Newsweek, in collaboration with the global research firm Statista, compiled recommendations from medical experts in 30 countries, patient satisfaction data, and other factors to announce ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2025’ rankings on its official website on Thursday, February 27.
In this evaluation, which selected the top 250 hospitals out of over 2,400 hospitals worldwide, Asan Medical Center is the only South Korean hospital to be ranked in the top 20 range, leading the way in global healthcare.
Mayo Clinic in the United States ranked 1st in the world, followed by Cleveland Clinic in the United States, Toronto General Hospital in Canada, Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, and Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden in 2nd through 5th place, respectively.
The evaluation criteria included △an online survey of doctors, healthcare professionals, and hospital administrators across 30 countries (40%), △medical performance indicators (37.5%), △patient satisfaction surveys (17.5%), and △implementation of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMS) (5%). For hospitals in South Korea, the evaluation also included the appropriateness assessments on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, and pharmaceuticals conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA), as well as patient experience evaluation results regarding doctors, nurses, and the hospital environments.
Meanwhile, in the ‘World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2025’ rankings by Newsweek announced in the second half of last year, Asan Medical Center ranked 3rd globally in endocrinology, 4th in gastroenterology, and 5th in oncology and urology. It was ranked 1st in five specialties, including endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery, in South Korea.
President Seung-Il Park of Asan Medical Center stated “Asan Medical Center, leading the treatment of serious diseases such as cancer, organ transplantation, and heart diseases, has established itself as a global hospital of last resort, trusted by patients not only in Korea but also around the world. We will continue to enhance our specialized care system for serious diseases, led by medical specialists, to ensure patient safety and provide high-quality care."
