Asan Medical Center, operated by the Asan Foundation (Chairman Chung Mong-Joon), was ranked among the world’s top 10 hospitals in six clinical specialties in Newsweek’s 2026 evaluation of the World’s Best Hospitals by Specialty. This marks the highest number of specialties ranked in the global top 10 among hospitals in Korea.

Asan Medical Center was ranked 4th worldwide in cancer, gastroenterology, and endocrinology, 6th in neurology and urology, and 8th in orthopedics. It is the only hospital in Korea to place six specialties within the global top 10 and is one of only a few hospitals in the world to achieve this distinction.

Asan Medical Center also ranked No. 1 in Korea in six specialties including gastroenterology, endocrinology, neurology, orthopedics, cardiology, and cardiac surgery as the highest number nationwide.

Newsweek, in collaboration with the global research firm Statista, conducted the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026” evaluation, with the final results released on its website on the 11th.

The evaluation was based on three criteria: results from an online survey of healthcare professionals worldwide (85 percent), international accreditation of medical institutions (10 percent), and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) (5 percent).

In the cancer category, Asan Medical Center rose from 5th place last year to 4th, standing alongside world-renowned institutions such as MD Anderson Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the United States.

In endocrinology, Asan Medical Center has ranked within the world’s top five for six consecutive years since Newsweek launched its specialty evaluations. Asan Medical Center also earned strong ratings in other fields, including 17th in cardiology, 20th in pulmonology, and 30th in cardiac surgery.

This year, as in previous years, many specialties saw their rankings rise. Cardiac surgery climbed 12 places, cardiology 7 places, pulmonology 5 places, orthopedics 4 places, neurology 2 places, and cancer 1 place.
