I began my fellowship in interventional cardiology at Asan Medical Center in September 2024, after working at the Mohammed Bin Khalifa Cardiac Centre (MKCC) in Bahrain. Under the mentorship of Professor Seung-Jung Park of the Division of Cardiology at Asan Medical Center, I have been directly involved in complex coronary interventions, including left main bifurcation lesions and heavily calcified lesions, as well as advanced procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement. By learning how to respond to challenging situations during procedures, I feel that I am growing professionally every day.

Learning from the World’s Best in Interventional Cardiology
A colleague from Bahrain who had trained at Asan Medical Center several years before me recommended the Division of Cardiology. It is internationally recognized for excellence in complex interventional procedures and offers many opportunities to exchange knowledge with leading experts from renowned institutions. I was confident that the experience I would gain here would greatly benefit the care of patients with severe cardiac disease in Bahrain.

Exceptional Teamwork in the Angiocardiography Unit
I am building lifelong friendships with the multidisciplinary team in the Angiocardiography Unit including cardiologists, nurses and radiologic technologists from the Angiocardiography Unit, and fellow international medical trainees. The teamwork in the unit is truly exceptional. Senior colleagues generously share their expertise, while junior members learn quickly and strive to develop their professional skills. Because mutual respect and teamwork are also highly valued in Bahrain, this environment has been especially impressive to me. Whenever I admire my colleagues’ dedication, I find myself saying my favorite Korean expression, “Yeoksi!” (“As expected!”).

Recharging through Diverse Activities
It has already been nearly a year and a half since I came to Korea. I now enjoy daily life much like a local, enjoying all kinds of kimchi and even searching for the best salt bread, with its appealing balance of sweet and savory flavors. On my days off, I participate in a variety of activities, such as cycling with colleagues and joining pottery and canvas painting classes. These moments of renewal give me the energy to refocus on my clinical work and research.

Contributing to the Future of Healthcare in Bahrain
With about seven months remaining in my fellowship at Asan Medical Center, I know that this period will remain one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I am deeply grateful to Professor Seung-Jung Park for teaching me not only advanced interventional techniques, but also a patient-centered approach, the importance of teamwork, and a physician’s professional philosophy. I am committed to sharing what I have learned here with my colleagues and patients back home and to contributing to the advancement of healthcare in Bahrain.
