In the “Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026” rankings announced on June 18 (Thursday) by Newsweek, Asan Medical Center ranked No. 1 in five clinical specialties: cardiology, cardiac surgery, neurology, endocrinology, and orthopedics. Asan Medical Center was the hospital with the highest number of No. 1 rankings among hospitals from 11 Asia Pacific countries evaluated.

Asan Medical Center surpassed leading hospitals in countries including Japan, Australia, and Singapore to achieve the top ranking in these five specialties, demonstrating its excellence in medical care across the Asia Pacific region.

Asan Medical Center also achieved strong results in other evaluated specialties, ranking No. 2 in oncology, pulmonology, and gastroenterology, No. 5 in pediatrics, and No. 12 in neurosurgery. Overall, Asan Medical Center ranked among the top five hospitals in nine clinical specialties.

Newsweek conducted an online survey for one month beginning in February in collaboration with global market research firm Statista, targeting more than 8,000 healthcare professionals across 11 Asia Pacific countries, including Korea, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The survey evaluated leading hospitals across 10 clinical specialties. The final rankings, recently announced on Newsweek’s website, incorporated a comprehensive assessment of national healthcare performance indicators, patient satisfaction evaluations, and the implementation of Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).

Asan Medical Center Heart Institute once again ranked No. 1 in the Asia Pacific region this year, maintaining the top position for four consecutive years since Newsweek began its Asia Pacific hospital rankings.

Asan Medical Center Heart Institute treats an average of approximately 200,000 outpatients and 60,000 inpatients each year. It is globally recognized for its excellence in interventional cardiology, having been ranked No. 1 worldwide among research institutions for outstanding studies on stent treatments for cardiovascular diseases such as angina and myocardial infarction.

In particular, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), which treats aortic valve stenosis without opening the chest, reached 2,500 procedures in 2025, marking the highest number of cases among medical institutions in Asia and the first such achievement in the region.

With this level of expertise in treating serious diseases such as heart disease and cancer, Asan Medical Center welcomes approximately 20,000 international patients from around 100 countries each year. In addition, overseas medical professionals visit Asan Medical Center to learn advanced medical techniques, with more than 500 healthcare professionals from over 60 countries participating annually.

Meanwhile, Asan Medical Center ranked among the world’s top 10 hospitals in six clinical specialties in Newsweek’s “Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026” rankings, which evaluated hospitals worldwide, including those in the Asia Pacific region. It was the only hospital in Korea to achieve top 10 rankings in six clinical specialties.

President Seung-Il Park of Asan Medical Center said “Asan Medical Center has become a globally recognized hospital by leading the treatment of serious diseases beyond Korea. We will continue to advance our serious disease focused care system to ensure patient safety and provide high quality medical care.”
