Professor In-Ho Jeon of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Asan Medical Center has been elected President-Elect of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT) at its World Congress. His two-year term will begin on October 1.

Founded in Paris, France, in 1929, SICOT is a leading international orthopaedic society with nearly a century of history. It promotes education, research and academic exchange across all fields of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology. The society currently has approximately 2,000 members, and its online educational programs reach 162 countries, making it one of the world’s most extensive international orthopaedic networks.

Professor In-Ho Jeon was elected President-Elect in a vote by an international committee comprising representatives from various countries at the SICOT World Congress held in Kyoto, Japan, on September 28. The President-Elect is a key leadership position that precedes the presidency, and Professor In-Ho Jeon is the first Korean physician to be elected to the role.

Since its founding, SICOT has elected leading orthopedic surgeons from countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany and Japan to serve as president. Professor In-Ho Jeon’s election represents more than an individual academic achievement. It marks the entry of a Korean orthopedic surgeon into international leadership responsible for shaping the long-term strategic direction of global orthopedics and stands as a milestone reflecting the growing international standing of Korean orthopedics.

In his election campaign, Professor In-Ho Jeon gained support by proposing three key priorities to prepare SICOT for the next generation beyond its centennial: digital transformation, expanded global education and accessibility, and stronger member engagement and connectivity.

“I will strengthen connections among orthopaedic professionals worldwide through digital transformation and expanded global education, while establishing a foundation for research and education policies that will serve future generations beyond SICOT’s centennial,” said Professor In-Ho Jeon of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Asan Medical Center.

Professor In-Ho Jeon specializes in treating shoulder and elbow disorders at Asan Medical Center. He has also served as Director for Asan Medical International (AMI) and Director of the International Healthcare Center, playing an active role in providing care for international patients. In 2023, he was elected to SICOT’s Executive Committee as Vice President representing the Asia Pacific region. During his two-year term, he helped advance orthopedics through artificial intelligence, robotic surgery and tissue engineering.
